About the Role
We are seeking a motivated SEO WordPress Web Developer Intern to support the development, optimisation, and performance of content-driven websites. This role is ideal for someone who understands both WordPress development and on-page/technical SEO, and wants hands-on experience working on real websites, blogs, and digital products.
You will work closely with content, SEO, and marketing teams to ensure websites are fast, search-engine-friendly, and conversion-focused.
Key Responsibilities
WordPress Development
Build, customise, and maintain WordPress websites and landing pages
Work with themes, child themes, and page builders (e.g. Gutenberg, Elementor)
Implement custom layouts, templates, and basic PHP/HTML/CSS edits
Ensure websites are mobile-responsive and cross-browser compatible
SEO Implementation
Implement on-page SEO best practices (titles, meta descriptions, headings, internal linking)
Optimise site structure, URLs, and taxonomy for SEO
Improve site speed, Core Web Vitals, and overall technical SEO performance
Assist with schema markup and structured data where required
Technical Optimisation
Fix technical SEO issues (crawl errors, broken links, duplicate content, indexing issues)
Work with SEO plugins (e.g. Rank Math, Yoast)
Support website migrations, updates, and backups
Ensure proper use of redirects (301/302) and canonical tags
Collaboration & Support
Work alongside SEO specialists, content writers, and designers
Assist with publishing SEO-optimised blog posts and pages
Follow SEO briefs, content structures, and internal linking strategies
Document processes and changes clearly
Required Skills & Knowledge
Basic to intermediate experience with WordPress
Understanding of SEO fundamentals (on-page & technical SEO)
Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and basic PHP
Familiarity with SEO tools and plugins (Rank Math, Yoast, Google Search Console)
Understanding of site speed, mobile optimisation, and UX best practices
Strong attention to detail
Nice-to-Have (Not Essential)
Experience with page speed tools (PageSpeed Insights, GTmetrix)
Basic JavaScript knowledge
Experience with content-heavy or blog-based websites
Understanding of keyword research and content SEO
Familiarity with Google Analytics
