Founding UI/UX Engineer at WRC
Location: Remote · Commitment: Flexible — nights and weekends welcome · Compensation: Founder-level equity now, salary after our raise · Stack: Flutter / Dart
The One-Line Pitch
WRC is a social fitness app that gets people running by making them accountable to each other. The product works, real users are on it, and investors are lined up behind our traction milestones. We need the person who makes it beautiful — our first frontend hire, and the owner of everything users see and touch.
About WRC
Worldwide Run Club is building the infrastructure for the global running community. Most fitness apps are built for people who already run. We're built for the millions who want to run but never stick with it — and our answer is scheduled, real-time group runs where showing up matters because other people are counting on you.
We're live in beta with engaged testers, a working Flutter/Firebase app, and a clear path to launch on the App Store. What we don't have yet is a design owner. That's you.
What You'll Actually Do
You'll be the first frontend hire and the founding voice on design. That means:
Design it. Own the look, feel, and flow of the app — screens, navigation, animations, share cards, celebration moments, the little details that make people screenshot an app and send it to a friend. You don't need a formal design degree; you need taste and the ability to defend your choices.
Build it. This isn't a hand-off-to-engineering role. You'll implement your own designs in Flutter/Dart, shipping real screens to real users on a weekly cadence.
Shape it. You'll sit at the table with the founding team for product decisions, not downstream of them. When we debate what the run experience should feel like, your opinion carries founder weight — because you'll be a founder-level equity holder.
Who You Are
You've designed and built mobile UI before. Portfolio, shipped apps, side projects — show us screens you made that you're proud of.
You're a fast learner. Deep Flutter expertise is not required. If you come from React Native, Swift, Kotlin, or strong web frontend and can ramp into Flutter fast, that works. We need someone shipping within one to two weeks, not someone perfect on day one.
You sweat the details. Padding, easing curves, empty states, loading moments. You notice when something is 2 pixels off and it bothers you.
You want ownership, not tickets. You'd rather own a whole surface area of a young product than polish someone else's roadmap at a big company.
Bonus: you run, or you've ever tried to start running and quit. Either one means you understand our user.
The Honest Pitch on Compensation
This is an equity-only role during our beta phase — a founder-level stake, not a token grant. No cash yet, and we won't pretend otherwise.
Here's the path: when beta concludes, we'll be raising capital from investors already waiting on our traction milestones. As soon as that round closes, a salary will be paid to this role based on the company resources available at that time. Your equity stays intact. The cash starts when the company has cash.
You don't have to quit your day job. If you're employed full-time and want to build nights and weekends on something that could become your main thing, that's a completely valid way to do this role — but we expect real output, because our expectations are aligned with the success of our product until we raise money. We care about output and ownership, not calendar blocks.
Why This Is a Rare Seat
Real product, real users, real investor interest — you're not joining an idea, you're joining momentum.
Total design ownership — your fingerprints on every screen of an app used worldwide.
A founding team that ships daily — you'll collaborate directly with cofounders who are pushing the product forward every single day. You won't be building in a vacuum.
Category-defining timing — running is one of the largest, most global, most underserved communities on the planet, and the accountability wedge is wide open.
