Senior Process Engineer (Biomass Gasification) at Carbon Negative Power
Senior Process Engineer (Biomass Gasification)
Company: Carbon Negative Power
Location: Remote (with significant travel to project sites required)
Job Type: Full-Time
About Us At Carbon Negative Power, we partner with agricultural producers in the timber, plywood, and rice milling sectors to transform their biomass waste into a permanent economic advantage. We design, build, and operate custom on-site power plants that deliver reliable behind-the-meter baseload electricity at zero upfront cost to the producer. Our facilities convert organic residues into clean energy, biochar, and high-value carbon credits. We take on the engineering and capital risk so our partners can focus on their core business of agricultural production.
The Role We are seeking an experienced Process Engineer with deep expertise in biomass gasification to lead the technical deployment of our carbon-negative energy facilities. This is a hybrid role. You will work remotely on process design and engineering while traveling to agricultural and industrial sites to supervise installations, oversee commissioning, and ensure operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the process design and optimization for biomass gasification systems operating at core temperatures of 700°C.
Travel to project sites to supervise the installation, integration, and commissioning of new power plants.
Develop and refine mass and energy balances, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for facilities processing agricultural waste like rice husks, corn waste, and plywood residue.
Serve as the primary technical lead on the ground during the build phase, ensuring construction aligns with strict engineering specifications and safety standards.
Troubleshoot process bottlenecks during site startups and transition plants into smooth, continuous operation for behind-the-meter electricity generation.
Collaborate closely with internal project teams and on-site agricultural partners to ensure seamless facility integration.
About You
Education: Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
Experience: Proven track record in process engineering with specific, hands-on experience in biomass gasification and thermal energy systems.
Field Readiness: Highly comfortable transitioning from remote design work to hands-on site supervision. You must be willing to travel extensively to agricultural production sites for installations and commissioning.
Technical Acumen: Strong proficiency in calculating mass and energy balances and developing technical diagrams for waste-to-energy pathways.
Problem Solver: Ability to make critical engineering decisions on-site to keep construction and commissioning on schedule.
Why Join Us? You will be at the forefront of decarbonizing heavy agriculture. This role offers the autonomy of remote work combined with the tangible satisfaction of building and commissioning physical infrastructure that eliminates energy costs for producers and removes carbon from the atmosphere.
How to Apply Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your specific experience with biomass gasification and site installations.
