LiveKit is revolutionizing the AI landscape by providing the essential network infrastructure that powers multimodal AI interfaces, enabling seamless audio and visual interactions. Founded in 2021, LiveKit has rapidly grown to support over 3 Billion calls annually, 200,000+ developers globally, and industry giants like OpenAI, Salesforce, Spotify, and Meta. You'll thrive at LiveKit if you:Care deeply about producing clean, reliable, and practical systemsConsistently step up to own challenging technical problemsAre known for figuring things out, even in unfamiliar domainsValue clear communication and simple, understandable designsLike building systems that ship, run in production, and improve over timeThe best way to impress us is with thoughtful Issues and/or PRs on our Github repos ðAbout This Role: Weâre looking for a Senior/Staff Engineer to expand the foundations of LiveKitâs cloud platform. This is a role with broad technical scope and impact, working on shared systems that influence how LiveKit designs, operates, and scales its servicesIn this role, youâll design and implement core elements of our infrastructure, from control plane components to internal libraries and tooling. Youâll work on complex systems where latency, availability, and operational simplicity are critical, and where solutions often require careful tradeoffs and outside-the-box thinkingWhile experience with distributed systems is valuable, we place equal importance on strong programming fundamentals, sound judgment, and the ability to learn quickly. Youâll be expected to approach problems from first principles, help shape technical direction through implementation, and raise the quality bar for systems others build onYour work will have direct, lasting impact across LiveKitâs products and engineering organizationWhat You'll Do: Design and build the core control, data, and observability systems that power LiveKit CloudImplement resilient, region-spanning architectures that degrade gracefully under partial failureBuild libraries, protocols, and tooling that raise reliability and developer velocity across the orgDiagnose and harden critical paths using metrics, tracing, testing, and real-world traffic insightsShape new platform capabilities across identity, scheduling, observability, and distributed state managementTechnologies include: Go, psrpc, gRPC, NATS, Kubernetes, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, ClickHouseWho You Are: You have experience building and operating critical production servicesYou take ownership from design through implementation, deployment, and iterationYou learn quickly and arenât intimidated by unfamiliar problem domainsYou think clearly about data flow, state, performance, and failure modes, and you can reduce complex systems into understandable componentsYouâre comfortable operating with incomplete information and evolving requirementsYou value clear communication, practical engineering, and building systems that others enjoy working withWe offerAn opportunity to build something truly impactful to the worldContribute to open source alongside world-class engineersCompetitive salary and equity packageHealth, dental, and vision benefitsFlexible vacation policyPlease mention the word **HONESTY** and tag RMjQwMTo0OTAwOjFmM2Y6MjkxNTo1NTcwOmI3MmI6MzIyODozMGQ= when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMjQwMTo0OTAwOjFmM2Y6MjkxNTo1NTcwOmI3MmI6MzIyODozMGQ=).
