Tech Lead / Head of Engineering at 1Fi
About the Role
We’re looking for a Tech Lead / Founding Engineer to own and lead the entire technology stack as we build and scale our core fintech products from scratch. This is a true 0→1 leadership role — not a people-management-only position, but a hands-on builder who sets technical direction, writes production code, and raises the engineering bar.
You’ll work directly with the founder and early team to turn ambitious fintech ideas into scalable, secure, and user-first web and mobile products, while making key architectural and technical decisions that will define the company for years.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys ownership, autonomy, and speed, and wants to grow into a long-term technology leader.
What You’ll Do
Own end-to-end architecture across frontend, backend, databases, and infrastructure.
Build and ship core products across web and mobile using React.js / React Native and Node.js (or similar modern stack).
Design and implement scalable backend systems and APIs for lending, payments, and investment workflows.
Lead development of core fintech systems (LOS, LMS, checkout flows, integrations).
Make key decisions on tech stack, system design, security, and scalability.
Review code, define engineering best practices, and ensure high standards of quality and reliability.
Work closely with the founder on product strategy, UX trade-offs, and roadmap planning.
Mentor early engineers and help build a strong engineering culture as the team grows.
Drive 0→1 execution, while ensuring the platform is ready to scale.
Who You Are
4–10 years of full-stack engineering experience, with strong hands-on delivery in production systems.
Proven experience building products from scratch in early-stage startups or small, high-ownership teams.
Strong expertise in React.js, Node.js / Express.js, and modern frontend/backend architectures.
Solid experience with databases (PostgreSQL / Supabase) and complex API integrations.
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or similar), deployments, and CI/CD pipelines.
Strong understanding of system design, scalability, security, and performance trade-offs.
High ownership mindset — you identify problems, propose solutions, and execute without waiting for instructions.
Comfortable operating in ambiguity and fast-moving environments.
Passion for fintech, especially lending, investments, or wealth-tech. Bonus
Prior experience building fintech platforms, lending systems (LOS/LMS), or regulated financial products.
Experience hiring or mentoring engineers in early-stage startups.
