Staff Materials Planner - Supply Chain & Inventory at IonQ
We are looking for a Staff Materials Planner. As a Staff Materials Planner, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.
As a Staff Materials Planner, you will serve as a strategic pivot point for our manufacturing operations, orchestrating material flow to ensure the seamless execution of our production lines and complex New Product Introduction (NPI) builds. Moving beyond transactional procurement, your primary focus will be on optimizing production capacity, managing complex work order releases, and driving shop-floor scheduling efficiency to maximize throughput. You will collaborate deeply with manufacturing and Supply Chain leadership to mitigate line-down risks, manage Work-in-Process (WIP) flow, resolve immediate material constraints on the floor, and adhere to production build schedules. This role demands high-level problem solving, the ability to refine planning processes for scale, and close coordination with engineering to bridge the gap between design and volume manufacturing. If you excel in a fast-paced, highly ambiguous, technology-driven environment and possess a robust background in production control and manufacturing planning, this is your opportunity to contribute to the future of quantum computing. This is a full-time, on-site position at our College Park, MD facility.
Responsibilities:
Design and implement scalable planning frameworks and standardized operating procedures (SOPs) to support a growing global supply chain.
Lead the planning integration for newly acquired companies and new site launches; create the "playbook" for system adoption, data migration, and process alignment.
Serve as the internal Subject Matter Expert (SME) for ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) planning parameters (safety stock logic, lead times, time fences), continuously auditing and optimizing system settings to improve MRP (Material Resource Planning) accuracy.
Execute system-level planning within a dynamic manufacturing environment to support engineering and NPI project timelines.
Achieve 95% or greater on-time delivery to MRP at the top-level assembly, ensuring critical components are available for engineering builds and NPI milestones.
Proactively identify material constraints across the global network, develop strategic solutions (e.g., alternate sourcing, load balancing), and lead collaborative efforts to resolve issues.
Generate and maintain detailed daily/weekly build schedules, communicating effectively across engineering, production, and global supply chain teams.
Provide executive-level reporting on material health, shortages, and integration progress, translating complex data into actionable insights and recommendations for leadership.
Partner with strategic suppliers and internal sourcing and procurement teams to drive performance improvements, confirm delivery schedules, and expedite materials.
Partner with internal customers to understand and deliver on technical requirements for NPI.
You’d be a good fit with:
Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related field.
8+ years of experience in materials planning, production control and/or supply chain management, with significant exposure to high-growth or complex manufacturing environments.
Demonstrated experience integrating new sites, subsidiaries, or acquisitions into a centralized ERP/MRP system.
Expert-level understanding of MRP logic, Master Production Scheduling (MPS), and inventory control strategies within a multi-site global environment.
Ability to influence without authority and lead global cross-functional initiatives
Advanced data analysis skills (e.g. advanced Excel, Power Query) with the ability to build models for capacity planning and inventory optimization.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, enabling the effective presentation of technical supply chain concepts to both non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership within the organization.
You’d be a great fit with:
Experience acting as a functional lead for ERP implementations or major system upgrades (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, etc.).
Experience with NetSuite by Oracle (e.g. Advanced Planning/Demand Planning modules).
Experience with Power BI, or similar visualization tools for building executive dashboards.
Experience with Google Suite.
APICS CPIM, CSCP, or PMP certification.
Background in Change Management.
Location: This role is based at our office in College Park, MD, with the option to work remotely a few days a week.
