User Experience Engineer (UXE)

Hungry, Humble, Honest, with Heart. The Opportunity We are looking for a Senior User Experience Engineer (MTS4) to join our UX/UI team. You will work at the intersection of design and technology — collaborating with designers, researchers, and engineers to prototype, validate, and deliver great user experiences across Nutanix's product portfolio. What sets this role apart from a typical UXE position is scope. Beyond strong frontend skills, you should be comfortable working across the full stack — backend services, databases, deployment, monitoring — and be able to independently build and ship an end-to-end application when needed. You understand the full software development life cycle and can operate across it without hand-holding. You also bring AI into your daily workflow — not as a buzzword, but as a practical tool to move faster and build better. You will report to the Technical Director of Design, who fosters an environment of mentorship and growth. Our hybrid work model combines flexibility with collaboration, requiring team members to be in the office 2–3 days a week to maintain synergy while enjoying the benefits of remote work. Your Role Support the React Component UI team in creating and maintaining components aligned with the Design System. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prototype and implement AI-powered experiences using LLMs, agents, and generative design systems. Educate Engineering teams on Design System best practices, accessibility standards, and component consumption. Rapidly prototype micro-interactions and complex workflows using both traditional and AI-assisted tools. Partner with UX Researchers to test and iterate on user experiences. Build and maintain interactive prototype platforms for designers, engineers, and customers. Work closely with UX and Graphic Designers to ensure consistent use of the Design System. Act as a bridge between Design and Engineering, ensuring quality and usability of final products. Develop and maintain internal tools and infrastructure to streamline the prototyping process. When needed, independently build full-stack applications end-to-end — frontend, backend, database, deployment, and monitoring. Use AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) daily to accelerate coding, debugging, and documentation. Mentor junior engineers on engineering best practices and effective use of AI tooling. What You Will Bring 7–8 years of hands-on software engineering experience, with strong depth in frontend and working knowledge across the stack. Strong proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+)/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern frameworks (React preferred). Solid understanding of UX principles, visual design, and design systems. Experience building backend services/APIs using Node.js, Python, Java wor similar. Comfortable working with databases (relational or NoSQL), writing queries, and designing schemas. Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, build tools (Webpack, Vite), and deployment workflows. Familiarity with server environments (Linux), web servers (Nginx/Apache), and containerization basics (Docker). Experience setting up basic monitoring, logging, or alerting for services you've built. Comfortable with Git workflows (GitHub, Gerrit) including code reviews and branching strategies. Knowledge of Semantic HTML, Accessibility (WCAG), and responsive design. Familiarity with Figma or similar design tools and component library integration. Experience using AI coding assistants (Cursor, Copilot, or similar) and LLMs (ChatGPT, Claude) for everyday development and problem-solving. Good understanding of the overall software development life cycle — from requirements to production support. Strong problem-solving skills, good communication, and a collaborative mindset Preferred Qualifications - Experience with: Responsive Design, Grid Systems, Flexbox React Hooks, Redux, React Router CSS & SVG Animations, Lottie, Visualization Libraries (D3) Unit Testing (Jest / React Testing Library) / E2E Testing (Playwright) / Visual Regression Testing Node.js backend development, REST APIs, GraphQL Cloud databases (Firebase, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) Web Servers (Linux, Nginx, Apache) Work Arrangement Hybrid: This role operates in a hybrid capacity, blending the benefits of remote work with the advantages of in-person collaboration. In locations where our workplace policy applies (i.e. San Jose, Durham, Mexico City, Bangalore, Pune, Hoofddorp, Belgrade, Barcelona, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo), employees are expected to work onsite a minimum of 3 days per week to foster collaboration, team alignment, and access to in-office resources.
