Editorial Assistant @ Cafe Society Magazine at Maxwell
Cafe Society, a New York-based magazine spinning out of Maxwell Social, is seeking an Editorial Assistant to support writing, reporting, and editing of our daily content production across all editorial and social platforms.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a sharp, highly literate early-career writer/editor looking for real responsibility and close mentorship in a magazine launch environment.
The Editorial Assistant will report directly to the magazines EIC, an experienced senior editor with 15+ years at leading international publications.
The Ideal Candidate
Demonstrates excellent written English, with strong command of grammar, structure, tone, and style
Has a background in writing, literature, journalism, and/or the humanities
Is highly organized, proactive, and comfortable managing deadlines
Is deeply curious about American and international culture, particularly the arts, entertainment, society, business, and tech worlds
Has an editorially sensibility aligned with cultural journalism, NOT with marketing copy
Key Responsibilities
Write and report approximately 5 original articles per month
Maintain and update the editorial calendar
Manage content deadlines and internal editorial work flows
Coordinate with PR contacts following initial outreach by EIC
Assit with copy editing and fact checking
Write daily linked in posts in the magazine/its founder’s voice
This role offers meaningful bylines, hands-on editorial experience, and direct exposure to how a modern cultural magazine is built from the ground up.
