Engineering Manager - Ecommerce at Troopod
About Troopod
AI-native ecommerce growth partner. CRO consulting and design/development for 50+ D2C brands across India, UK, and USA: Colgate, Tanishq, Essor, BSC. Scaling to 200 clients. Building the delivery infrastructure to make that work.
What you'll own
Write the PRD or project spec for every large project before development starts: section breakdown, component list, device scope, interaction behaviour, acceptance criteria. A document a developer can build from without a single follow-up question.
Build and own the delivery plan for every project: milestones, timelines, dependencies, risk flags, before the first dev task is assigned.
Manage the junior dev team daily: standups, task allocation, unblocking stuck work, tracking progress. You are the person they report to on every project.
QA every deliverable against Figma before it reaches the client: pixel fidelity, interactions, mobile, CMS output. Nothing passes without your sign-off.
Own the deployment workflow: pre-deploy checklists, staging-to-production parity, client sign-off sequencing.
Build delivery SOPs: intake, kickoff, milestone reviews, QA, handoff, so quality compounds across projects, not just the ones you're watching.
Scope estimates and delivery commitments alongside leadership before projects are sold.
Diagnose recurring delivery failures and fix them at the root: process level, not per-project patches.
What we're looking for
5-7 years total, with at least 3 years inside a digital or ecommerce agency. Product company experience alone doesn't prepare you for multi-client, tight-turnaround agency pace. This distinction matters.
You have personally written PRDs, specs, or Statements of Work for large web or ecommerce builds. Not managed tasks in Jira. Authored the document that defined what gets built. You can share one.
Figma-literate enough to independently QA a live site against design files: every spacing, interaction, mobile, and CMS gap, without the designer or developer in the room.
You have directly managed junior frontend developers: task reviews, quality feedback, unblocking work. Not collaborated alongside them. Managed them.
Strong technical foundation: you have a development background and can read, review, and give line-level feedback on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Shopify Liquid without needing things explained. You are not writing production code daily but you are technical enough that junior developers cannot bluff you, and you can unblock a stuck build yourself when needed.
Deep enough Shopify platform knowledge to make architectural decisions: sections, metafields, APIs, app integrations, checkout logic. You know what is feasible, what is complex, and what is being overcomplicated before the developer finishes explaining it.
Process-minded in practice. You've built a delivery SOP, a pre-deploy checklist, or a QA workflow from scratch. Verbal handoffs and tribal knowledge bother you.
Clear communicator across every layer: CSM brief in, dev-ready requirements out, client-facing update when needed, nothing lost at any step.
What we offer
Meaningful ESOPs. You're joining at the inflection point, scaling from 50 to 200+ clients. You're building a function that doesn't exist yet.
Direct access to founders. No layers, no politics.
A specific, well-defined problem to own from day one. Not an ambiguous leadership brief.
The chance to set the delivery standard for a 100-client ecommerce agency.
