ProNexus is recruiting for a well-funded ($11M), early-stage healthtech startup reinventing how employees access healthcare. By connecting companies, doctors, and patients through a seamless direct primary care (DPC) network, this platform empowers employers to offer proactive, affordable care that leads to better health outcomes and lower costs.
This is a Senior Software Engineer role where you will be the first dedicated backend engineer on the team. Working alongside the Head of Technology and two data engineers, you’ll be at the forefront of building the company’s core platform from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to join an all-star team with strong traction and the freedom to architect solutions that will define the future of employer-sponsored healthcare.
What You’ll Do
Architect, design, and own key backend systems that power data flow between employers, providers, and patients.
Automate complex data collection and integrations, particularly focusing on employer, provider, and patient eligibility data. Design scalable infrastructure from scratch rather than just maintaining legacy systems.
Work extensively with relational databases, writing and optimizing complex SQL queries, designing schema migrations, and executing advanced data modeling.
Apply strict data security, completeness, and compliance measures to ensure patient and healthcare data integrity—recognizing that moving fast and breaking things in healthcare has real-world consequences.
Help establish engineering conventions, set code practices, and help shape the technical culture as the team scales.
Solve ambiguous business problems with critical thinking and pragmatic technical solutions.
What We’re Looking For
2+ years of deep backend software engineering experience, with strong proficiency in Python and/or Node.js.
Extensive expertise in relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL (schema design, query optimization, data modeling).
Proven ability to architect systems from scratch and automate complex data workflows.
A strong knack for data security, completeness, and integrity.
Highly autonomous mindset with the ability to move fast and solve ambiguous problems in a startup environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (degrees from top 50 universities or strong state/technical schools are highly preferred).
Proactive communication skills and the ability to articulate technical tradeoffs clearly.
Bonus Points
Previous experience in healthtech, healthcare startups, or dealing with healthcare claims, eligibility data, and compliance.
A track record of building core platforms from scratch at a fast-growing, early-stage startup.
Demonstrated role progression in previous positions.
Tech Stack
Python
Node.js

Clear career progression paths, including opportunities to mentor incoming engineers or step into people leadership (Team Lead) as the company expands.
Direct impact on improving healthcare access and outcomes for millions of employees.
