EHS Project Engineer at Electric Hydrogen Co.
We are seeking an EHS Project Engineer to support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety programs across manufacturing, field, and project-based operations.
In this role, you will partner closely with project site leadership, project teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to identify risks, strengthen compliance, and promote a proactive safety culture. You will contribute to both facility-based EHS programs and dynamic operational environments, including construction, installation, commissioning, and field activities supporting the deployment of Electric Hydrogen's technology.
You will work onsite at our Devens, MA facility and will be required to travel 50-75% to project sites and operational locations as business needs require.
Primary Responsibilities
Support the implementation and continuous improvement of EHS programs, policies, procedures, and standards across manufacturing sites and project operations
Partner with Manufacturing, Facilities, Engineering, Construction, Commissioning, and Operations teams to integrate EHS requirements into day-to-day activities and project execution
Provide EHS support for manufacturing operations, equipment installation, contractor activities, construction projects, startup, commissioning, and related field execution
Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), field observations, and routine inspections to identify hazards and drive timely corrective actions
Support compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, and federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
Assist with incident reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective and preventive action implementation
Develop and deliver EHS training and awareness programs for employees, contractors, and site personnel
Participate in contractor safety management activities, including pre-job planning, oversight of high-risk work, and verification of compliance with company requirements
Support emergency preparedness and response planning, drills, and readiness activities
Track, analyze, and report EHS metrics, trends, and action items to support continuous improvement initiatives
Support management of permits, safe work practices, and operational controls associated with routine and non-routine work activities
Build strong relationships across functions to promote accountability, engagement, and a culture of safety and environmental stewardship
Travel to support manufacturing facilities, project sites, and field operations as required
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related technical field
7+ years of EHS experience supporting manufacturing, construction, industrial, field, project, or similar operational environments
Strong knowledge of applicable EHS regulations and management practices, including OSHA requirements and industry best practices
Experience supporting risk assessments, incident investigations, inspections, corrective actions, and EHS program implementation
Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across a variety of teams and operational settings
Proven ability to influence safe behaviors and implement practical, business-focused solutions
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities across concurrent projects and locations
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS documentation and reporting systems
Ability and willingness to travel up to 75% based on project and business needs
Ability to work effectively in both structured and fast-paced operational environments
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting manufacturing operations, construction activities, or both
Experience working with contractors, capital projects, equipment installation, commissioning, and startup activities
Familiarity with high-risk work controls including lockout/tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, hot work, confined space entry, fall protection, crane and rigging operations, and permit-required work
Experience in a high-growth industrial, energy, technology, advanced manufacturing, or clean energy environment
Familiarity with ISO management systems, including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
Professional certifications such as CHMM, ASP, CSP, CIH, PE, or similar credentials
