ProNexus is recruiting for a profitable, fast-growing construction fintech company building mission-critical software for construction lenders. The platform helps lenders manage inspections, approvals, budgets, draw requests, payouts, fraud checks, and borrower communication in one streamlined system.
This is a senior full-stack engineering role on a small, high-ownership team. You’ll work across backend systems, databases, APIs, frontend UI, integrations, and legacy system improvements. The right person is a pragmatic, T-shaped engineer who has shipped and maintained production applications used by real customers and knows how to improve mature systems without overengineering.
This is not a pure greenfield role. You’ll be extending and improving a mature Rails-based platform that powers real construction lending workflows, while helping shape the next phase of the product and engineering culture.
What You’ll Do
Collaboratively define, scope, and architect new platform capabilities on top of a mature production system.
Extend and improve legacy systems, including payments, integrations, workflow automation, and new customer-facing features.
Work directly with databases, including writing and optimizing SQL, designing schema migrations, and ensuring API payloads are efficient and well-structured.
Build and maintain frontend product experiences using React, Hotwire, TypeScript, Tailwind, and potentially React Native.
Design and improve backend APIs, data models, background jobs, and integration workflows.
Manage background processing, job queues, and system reliability using tools like Sidekiq or similar systems.
Identify areas where legacy implementations need improvement and propose practical migration paths that balance engineering quality with business constraints.
Help establish engineering conventions, development practices, and technical culture as the team scales.
Communicate proactively in a fully remote environment, including clearly explaining technical tradeoffs, asking strong questions, and thinking through problems out loud.
What We’re Looking For
6+ years of professional full-stack engineering experience.
Experience shipping and maintaining production applications used by real customers.
Strong backend depth, including API design, database schema design, migrations, SQL, and background processing.
Experience working on mature or legacy systems, not just greenfield applications.
Strong frontend ability with React, TypeScript, Tailwind, Hotwire, or similar modern web technologies.
Experience with Ruby on Rails, or strong willingness and ability to work in a Rails monolith.
Comfort working with PostgreSQL, SQL query optimization, data modeling, and system-level integrations.
Ability to work independently in ambiguous environments without fully specified tickets.
Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to explain technical decisions clearly.
Genuine curiosity about business domains outside your own expertise.
Bonus Points
Experience in construction, fintech, proptech, lending, real estate, healthcare, or another domain where you had to deeply learn the business to build the right product.
Experience with payments, financial workflows, inspections, compliance, or operationally complex B2B SaaS.
Experience with React Native or mobile-facing product development.
Experience with Sidekiq or other background job processing systems.
Experience at a startup or small engineering team where you owned projects end to end.

Important Fit Notes
This role is best for someone who enjoys improving real production systems, not just starting from scratch.
The team is looking for someone who can contribute across the stack while bringing especially strong backend, database, and system design judgment.
Strong communication is critical. The team values engineers who can talk through tradeoffs, clarify ambiguity, and collaborate through conversation.
The company is fully remote, with core collaboration hours around 10 AM–3 PM Mountain Time.
Why This Role
You’ll join a profitable, organically growing startup backed by strong proptech investors.
You’ll work on mission-critical software in a real-world industry where faster money movement directly impacts construction projects and housing availability.
You’ll have meaningful ownership on a small team with direct access to the founders and technical leadership.
You’ll help shape the next stage of the engineering organization as the company scales beyond its current platform.
