Systems Integration & Deployment Engineer at 7th Unit
ABOUT 7TH UNIT
7th Unit is building a humanoid robot platform for the labor markets in Europe and Asia. We have signed LOIs from industrial operators and a clear 12-month milestone: a working robot operating inside a paying customer facility.
We are not building toward a demo. We are building toward a deployed robot. This is one of four founding engineering roles. The team you join defines the architecture. The decisions made in the first 90 days will be in production in month ten.
THE ROLE
You are the person who holds the full stack together and gets the robot actually operating in a customer environment. That means sensor fusion, hardware-software integration, deployment tooling, the operator-facing interface, and field debugging when something fails in a factory at 2am.
Every other engineer on the founding team builds components. You are the person who integrates them into a system that works in the real world, ships it into a customer facility, and keeps it running through the paid pilot. The 12-month deployment milestone runs through you.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
Systems integration: own the full stack integration — hardware, software, sensors, compute — and make sure all components work as a unified system
Sensor fusion: integrate RGB-D cameras, force sensors, and navigation sensors into a coherent real-time perception and control pipeline
Deployment tooling: build the internal tooling for configuring robots for new customer environments, updating task policies, and monitoring fleet health
Operator interface: build the minimal operator-facing dashboard that gives customer teams visibility into robot status and allows supervised fallback during the pilot
Field deployment: work directly inside the first customer environments to validate integration, debug real-world failures, and collect the operational data that drives improvement
First 90 days deliverable: the robot running inside the first customer environment, integrated, operational, and collecting real data
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
3+ years integrating complex robotic systems — hardware, software, and sensors — and deploying them in real operational environments
Experience shipping systems that real customers used, including managing the integration failures that only appear in real environments
Background at a company where integration and deployment were real engineering challenges: Boston Dynamics field deployment, iRobot, ABB Robotics, KUKA, Fanuc, defense robotics programs (DARPA, NASA, Lockheed field systems), or equivalent
Strong debugging instincts under real-world pressure — you have debugged systems in customer environments with live operators watching
Ability to build simple, reliable operator tooling that non-engineers can use — you think about the person in the facility, not just the engineer building the system
COMPENSATION & STRUCTURE
Salary: $110,000 (post-round close, market-rate for your location)
Equity: Meaningful founding engineer equity, negotiated directly
Structure: Founding engineer. You own the path from built to deployed. The paid pilot happens because of you.
Location: This role requires travel to and time in customer facilities in Eastern Europe and Central Asia during the deployment phase.
WHY THIS, WHY NOW
The companies building robots in San Francisco are optimizing for demos at trade shows. We are optimizing for a robot running inside a paying customer's factory. These require completely different skills. If you are the person who has spent your career making robots actually work in real environments — and you want to do that from day one at a company you helped build — this is the role.
