Full Job Description
We are looking for a talented Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain AI-powered consumer applications that help people understand, learn, communicate, and work more effectively.
In this role, you will help build practical software products that solve real-world problems through artificial intelligence, automation, scalable systems, and intuitive user experiences. Rather than providing custom software development or consulting services, we build and operate our own software products for consumers worldwide.
Our first product, CAPCUE, demonstrates our vision of creating software that enhances human productivity and accessibility through AI. CAPCUE is a Windows desktop application that provides real-time AI-powered captions for any audio played on a computer, including meetings, lectures, livestreams, videos, podcasts, and other media sources.
As the company grows, we plan to develop additional consumer-focused software products across productivity, education, communication, accessibility, and other technology-driven categories.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain high-quality software solutions for AI-powered consumer applications.
Build scalable backend services, APIs, and application features using TypeScript, Node.js, Python, PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, and cloud-based technologies.
Work closely with AI engineers and product teams to integrate LLM-powered features, automation workflows, and intelligent product experiences.
Develop reliable systems that support real-time functionality, including streaming data, transcription, captions, notifications, and user-facing workflows.
Build and improve application architecture with a focus on scalability, performance, maintainability, reliability, and security.
Contribute to database design, schema optimization, caching strategies, and backend performance improvements.
Support cloud infrastructure and deployment workflows using services such as GCP, AWS, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
Implement observability practices, including logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, and error tracking for production systems.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate product requirements into clean, scalable, and efficient code.
Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, sprint planning, and technical decision-making.
Take ownership of key product features and backend components from design through deployment and continuous improvement.
Improve engineering standards, development processes, documentation, testing practices, and system reliability.
What You’ll Bring
6+ years of professional software engineering experience building production software, backend systems, or cloud-based applications.
Strong experience with TypeScript, Node.js, Python, or similar modern programming languages.
Experience designing and building scalable backend services, REST APIs, WebSocket services, event-driven systems, or distributed applications.
Strong understanding of databases such as PostgreSQL and Redis, including schema design, query optimization, caching, and data modeling.
Experience with cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
Hands-on experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and modern deployment workflows.
Familiarity with Kubernetes or container orchestration is strongly preferred.
Experience building reliable, high-performance systems that operate in production environments.
Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, including clean code, testing, code reviews, source control, build processes, security, and operations.
Ability to work across the full software development life cycle, from planning and architecture to implementation, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
Strong debugging, problem-solving, and system design skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with product, design, AI, and engineering teams.
Experience working in Agile software development environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience building AI-powered applications, SaaS products, productivity tools, accessibility software, or consumer applications.
Experience integrating LLM APIs or AI services such as OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, Whisper, Deepgram, AssemblyAI, or similar technologies.
Experience with real-time systems, streaming APIs, audio processing, transcription workflows, or captioning tools.
Experience building high-performance, highly available, and scalable distributed systems.
Experience using open-source technologies and cloud-based services.
Experience with hybrid cloud infrastructure or multi-tenant application platforms.
Familiarity with observability tools for logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, and production debugging.
Experience mentoring junior engineers or contributing to engineering team standards.
Strong interest in building products that improve accessibility, communication, learning, and productivity.
